Remember yesterday when I said the Shadow element represents fear? Well that idea is the main reason why I chose to use a Spider- specifically the infamous Black Widow- as one of my Shadow creatures. After all, arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias out there, and with spiders in general having a very sneaky hunting strategy with their webs, it felt like a very natural fit for the element. And unlike almost every other insect-like design I’ve made so far, this one was actually pretty easy for me to draw. The only part I really struggled on was creating the body patterns, but even then it didn’t take me that much time to work something out and I think the end result looks pretty good. I’m also a big fan of how I handled giving it eight eyes like a real spider, as instead of just giving it one large eye like I normally do, I also gave it multiple smaller eyes using individual red pixels. It’s a very minor change, I know, but I still think it works really well and am very happy with how it turned out. But with all that said, I hope you guys enjoy this creepy crawly as much as I do (except for all of the arachnophobes out there to whom I say I’m very sorry) and I’ll be back tomorrow for the fifth and final creature of Shadow!
