To be honest, I was expecting this drawing to take me a whole lot longer than it did, but considering it’s a snake without any limbs to worry about it makes a lot of sense. This design is primarily based off of the Egyptian Cobra, as not only are snakes in general very common in metalwork, but this particular species is tied to very famous peice of metalwork called the Uraeus Cobra- the cobra you see on the headpieces of Egyptian pharaohs that symbolize divine protection- which felt like a very good reason to use this creature for the Metal element. This Egyptian connection is why I included some sandy/golden yellow in the color scheme as gold was a very important metal to ancient Egyptian culture, and also explains the name because copper was one of the most commonly used metal by the civilization. In fact I was originally planning to call it the Chrome Cobra and have it be mainly based off of the iconic King Cobra before I learned about the Ureaus Cobra, but once I discovered all of that I figured it would be better to change direction a little. As for which prehistoric serpent I referenced with this guy, while there isn’t much in the way of well-known extinct cobra species, what I could do was reference the famous Titanoboa by making this thing an absolute goliath and subsequently make this guy the Apex of the Metal element. So that’s exactly what I’ve done. So I hope you guys enjoy this awesome melting pot of a creature as much as I do, and I’ll be back tomorrow for the next addition to the roster!
