I did some thinking about how to set up the grid for my game and then I had a brain blast about the math to get vertically connected tiles. desaturated tiles are the empty tiles that need to be added for the math to work, gem tile is the current tile, gusher tiles are the target tiles, and the numbers in the cube tiles are the numbers that need to be added or subtracted from the coordinates of the current tile to get to a target tile
