When thinking about what each of the elemental regions will look like in my world, I decided I wanted the Earth region to be a mixture of deserts, mountains, and rocky grasslands. And with this idea in mind, I knew adding a scorpion among the enemy creatures for this element to inhabit the desert terrain would be perfect. The only other animal I can think of that would work here is a snake, but I’ve already based one of my Earth dragons off of a snake and I don’t want any overlap between the dragons of each region and what they fight. The only part of this design I don’t really like is how the back legs look, as even after spending good while fiddling with it I’m still not sure if what I have looks right. I’ll have to spend some extra time on that later, but aside from that I love how this guy came out.
