This is a redesign that kind of took me by surprise. Originally, I thought it would be a simple matter of changing a couple of small details but leaving the overall design the same, but it ended up being quite a bit more than that. You see when I first came up with the concept for this dragon, I envisioned it looking a lot like the Pokémon Lairon, except much bigger and more tied to Ice than Metal. That was the esthetic I was going for when I drew this guy for the first time, and while the result wasn’t exactly what I wanted I was still happy with what I’d done. Looking back at it now, however, made me realize that I could absolutely do a better job of capturing that look. While most of this dragon has remained as it was before, I ended up majorly bulking up its backside, completely redrawing the upper ridges of the armor plates, and adding small grey lines to better show the separation between each one. I even added some extra pixels to the top of the head to better match Lairon’s and further reinforce the connection. I know the end result of all that doesn’t look too different from the old version, but the road to get their was much longer than anyone could have expected and in my opinion was absolutely worth it. This is easily one my favorite dragons from the concept alone, and I hope you all enjoy the new-and-improved Polar Roller as much as I do!
