The time has come at last to begin redesigning the second half of my dragons, beginning with those of the Ice element. Now unlike all of the other dragons I’ve redrawn so far, this one wasn’t made using the image of its older version. Rather, I created a copy of the image of a different dragon, the Royal Blaze Dragon, and transformed it into the redesign for the Imperial Frost Dragon. I had two reasons for doing this: 1, the proportions for the Royal Blaze are so amazing for a quadrupedal dragon like this that not using them as a base would feel wrong; and 2, I wanted this guy to be almost an opposite-element counterpart to the Royal Blaze, having very similar appearances but completely inverted personalities, and using the design of one to create the other felt like the best way to reflect that even if it doesn’t seem obvious at first glance. Now that I’ve given you those fun facts and bits of lore, it’s time to talk about the actual design. Like with the Royal Blaze remake, the biggest change made here was general proportion improvements, with this version being a fair bit bulkier than the previous. I also competely redrew the wings, tail, and stripes along the side, swapped out the cyan/teal color for a much more vibrant shade, and added a pattern to the wings that resembles cracked ice. This was actually a pretty hard redesign to do, but I’m extremely happy with the final result, and I hope the rest of you are two. See you all tomorrow for the next one!
