I think that it is reasonable to say that the more sociable Grid Paint dwellers (me included) are friends! Here are some things that we often do on Grid Paint as friends:
1. Use Grid Paint as primary means of talking to each other
2. Use Grid Paint as means to show each other our creations in other mediums
3. Use Grid Paint as a microblog for status and life events
!! HERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS !!
1. Awesome sawce, but also it's really inconvenient and clunky, talking in comments is annoying and it's easy to miss out on stuff!!
>(also, when we speak in other languages, it's actually not allowed X< )
2. We're kinda getting by on technicalities / the mercy or ignorance of Vlad here, link sharing really is not allowed on GP
3. GP is supposed to be for art, and whenever we make lazy scribbles and such so we can get to the description quick it's kind of annoying... Even when we do put effort into the art, the problem starts to bleed into number 1, right?
I'm not trying to say we should leave GP altogether, bc that would be terrible!! I love just about everything about the tools and the community, and we shouldn't leave that behind!!!! I do have a proposition though, and we should really think about it... I think that instead of using Grid Paint, we should use a different platform for all of our non grid art stuff!
I want to keep using Grid Paint for everything other than the points I listed above, but everything else that we do as friends shouldn't be centralized on here imo. Random antics, fun group stuff, and other art for the sake of art is great,
SHORTER VERSION: We should only use GP for grid art stuff and anything centered around grid art stuff but unrelated talking as friends and stuff and sharing other kinds of art to each other should be done on something else
!! MY BEST IDEA FOR ACHEIVING THIS !!
We can use Google Docs (for lists), Google Slides (for profiles like on the MGPC and microblogging), and VoidChat (For Instant Messaging), and basically make a system of our own makeshift platforms for what we've been doing on GP but better and more in our control! (VoidChat isn't open source to my knowledge but it works well for instant messaging and is great for privacy)
Just to clarify, my main suggestion for a solution is not using 1 website, but rather using a network of makeshift stuff for different specific purposes, all connected together
The "network" will be a solution for the 3 problems, and since it consists of multiple platforms, it should encourage using GP as one of those platforms!! each platform has a different specific purpose, so GP still fulfills its own purposes for making and sharing art, and will still be good for group projects and fun little antics... but the rest of the "network" is still really useful because it means we can talk and share other stuff and make stuff in other mediums more conveniently!
